Moldovan government proposes awareness-raising strategy on EU integration

Monday, December 31, 2007

File:MoldovaEU.jpg

This week the government of Moldova approved an awareness-raising strategy on Moldova’s integration into the European Union.

The strategy was proposed to the Government by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration; the Ministry has argued that Moldova’s citizens must be educated about the impact of the forthcoming European integration.

The draft strategy document states that Moldova does not currently have any organised system for distributing information about the European Union to its populace, and that the Government has failed to perform any targeting of information to specific demographic groups. Taking into consideration the priority placed on EU integration by the current government of Moldova, the strategy document suggests methods to improve the situation and proposes a mechanism to enable the Moldovan public to participate actively in the European integration process. It is intended that an integrated system for providing information on EU integration will provided by the Government as a result of this draft.

The new information provisions will include such projects relating to EU – Moldovan cooperation such as information centers, a free-of-charge phone line, a website, information bulletins, improvement of information held in public libraries, etc. The strategy also proposes the instruction of journalists, press officers, and functionaries working in the local public administration on the topic of EU integration.

Public tender will be invited to select the businesses that will supply key components of these projects, as the government lacks the resources needed to fully finance the implementation of the strategy from the current budget. The strategy was planned with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Eurasia Foundation.

What We Must Know About The Fire Insurance Policies

What we must know about the fire insurance policies

by

kotio

There are many various insurance policies in present days and many of them are useful for the people. The insurance companies are providing coverage against almost any risk or damages on our house, car or anything, which is our property.

The fire insurance policies are required for each household in present days and they are part of the renters and property insurance methods. It covers damage to our belongings or loss from smoke or fire damage and because of that, the fire insurance policy is necessary in present days. The insurance companies do not write exactly fire insurance, because it is included in the property and renter policies, which are providing coverage against many various types of damages or losses on our property.

When we decide to get fire insurance policy, it is important for us to determine the keys, which will reduce the fire risk on our property, and will reduce our property insurance premium. After that we ll need to choose our rental property, and it is important to our property to be near a fire station and also to have water supply, which will be helpful in a case of fire in our house. When we are getting fire insurance policy it is important also for us to have fire-safety perimeter, which must be near our home and it must be constructed with some fire materials, which will resist on fire damages. These materials are fire-retardant insulation, cement block or brick. These materials are with good resistance against fire and they will protect our home against fire damages.

When we decide to get fire insurance policy, which is offered by each insurance company, it is important also for our home, to have safety devices, which will protect our home against fire damages. These devices are internal-sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, fire alarms and smoke detectors. It is important also for us to practice and determine what we will do if our home is burning in a case of fire. We must allow contingencies if we are having pets, special items or little children. These contingencies are family photographs, which are not replaceable.

When we are getting fire insurance policy, we must estimate the value of our belongings, and we must create an itemized list, which will include the items, which we want to protect against fire damages. We must determine what the price amount of these items is and what will be the price if we must replace them after fire damages on them. The actual value policies are with lower premiums and they will not completely replace the items, which are included in our itemized list. We must check and determine, which policy is best for us and that depends mostly from our budget, because many households are with limited budget. When we have already chosen our fire insurance policy, we can purchase it from each insurance company.

Navy helping New Orleans pets

Saturday, September 17, 2005

The Spanish word “tortuga” means “turtle.” But in the wake of the New Orleans disaster, the USS Tortuga is helping other animals.

For nearly two weeks now, sailors from Tortuga’s repair division have devoted much of their time during this disaster relief operation to ensure the health and comfort of displaced pets.

September 4th, just after the ship moored to a pier at Naval Support Activity (NSA) New Orleans, HT1(SW) Mark Hanley and DC1(SW) Antony Graves gathered materials from the repair shop on board to construct a kennel along the levee. The facility they made soon became a popular shelter for the homeless animals of the storm.

Tortuga’s search and rescue team brought aboard more than 170 displaced citizens during this past week, providing them with food, water, medical aid and a place to sleep.

Tortuga’s makeshift kennel, named ‘Camp Milo & Otis,’ has housed as many as 90 dogs, eight cats, one rabbit, one guinea pig, a pair of parakeets and a flightless pigeon during the past week of operation.

Currently, there are 14 dogs that remain in Tortuga’s care, as many of the other pets have been taken to animal shelters in the area for extra medical attention, or been claimed by their owners upon arrival to Tortuga. The pets that Tortuga has registered have all been in the hands of professional veterinarians assigned to provide expert medical attention to the members of Camp Milo & Otis.

Dr. Kelly Crowdis and Dr. Latina Gambles, both from Tuskegee University and Christian Veterinary Missions, have treated many of the pets for infection, dehydration, malnourishment and broken bones at the Camp during the past week.

“The animals were bathed and assessed before physical interaction with the sailors,” said Dr. Crowdis. “They’ve been given immunizations, antibiotics and medications based on their medical needs.”

Dr. Crowdis added, “What these sailors have done on their own has been such a heart-warming thing. As an animal lover, it is so comforting to know that everyone cares about the animals in addition to the human lives rescued from the storm. I’m very pleased with these guys for taking the initiative to construct this kennel.”

Graves, Hanley and other members of their division have consistently bathed, fed, walked and given special attention to every dog, every day.

“We play with them,” said Hanley. “We take them out of their kennels to give them attention every day. And we’ll continue to do that for as long as our ship’s mission keeps us here.”

September 11th, the Agricultural Center at Louisiana State University donated supplies to “Camp Milo & Otis” in support of Tortuga’s efforts to help the animal victims.

”We got medical supplies, bowls, food, cages, leashes, collars, toys, cat litter and cleaning supplies from these people yesterday,” said Graves. “It’s nice to know that so many people out there have heard about what our ship is doing, and responded by donating so much to support us the best they can.”

A photo gallery of unclaimed pets is on the USS Tortuga’s web site.

As part of disaster plans, the Department of Homeland Security has also deployed Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams to provide medical care to pets and livestock, as well as provide any needed veterinary medical care for search and rescue dogs.

There are over 3,850 animals being sheltered around the state. If someone is looking for a pet they should contact their nearest Humane Society or go online to http://www.petfinder.org// . More information is also available at http://www.vetmed.lsu.edu//.

South Australia enters week-long lockdown to contain COVID-19 Delta variant spread

Friday, July 23, 2021

With five active cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, South Australia begun a one-week lockdown on Monday. Announcing the lockdown, state Premier Steven Marshall declared “we have no alternative but to impose some fairly heavy and immediate restrictions”.

The first case out of South Australia’s active cases was presented to Modbury Hospital on Sunday night, having returned from Argentina earlier this month. The fifth, which Premier Marshall noted as “far more worrying”, visited The Greek on Halifax restaurant at the same time as someone who was later confirmed to be carrying the virus. Chief Public Health Officer for the state Nicola Spurrier said “if anyone has been at The Greek on Halifax they need to get into quarantine and get tested”.

In accordance with new regulations, there are only five reasons for South Australians to leave home: essential work, shopping for essential goods such as food, exercise, but only with people from the same household and within 2.5 kilometers (2 mi) of home, medical reasons (which includes testing and vaccination against the coronavirus, but excludes elective and cosmetic surgery), and caregiving.

Schools have closed for all but children of essential workers, with online learning having begun on Thursday. Face masks are also be mandated for those who leave home. ABC News reported that “support for businesses is expected to be announced…”, with all non-essential retail required to close under the new regulations.

At the same time, Kim’s son, Kim Jong-un has been named as the “Great Successor” by North Korean state media. Citizens are being told they “must faithfully revere respectable comrade Kim Jong-un. At the leadership of comrade Kim Jong-un, we have to change sadness to strength and courage and overcome today’s difficulties,” according to KCNA.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s military is on “emergency alert” following a meeting by South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). According to a JCS official, “We’re keeping close tabs on the demilitarized zone (DMZ), Joint Security Area (JSA) and Northern Limit Line (NLL) for possibilities of North Korean provocations.”

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak also presided over a meeting. A statement from Lee’s office said, “The government will remain thoroughly prepared while keeping a close watch over the situation in North Korea. The government will also cooperate closely with the international community to maintain peace and safety on the Korean Peninsula.”

Dozens arrested in leadup to St Petersburg G8 Summit

Wednesday, July 12, 2006

A G8 summit has been planned to take place from 15-17 July in St Petersburg, Russia. Several sources have reported that a systematic police crackdown on people participating in alternative meetings (a Libertarian Forum and the Russian Social Forum) and critical of the official meeting has begun almost a week prior to the summit. Estimates range from dozens to one or two hundred arrests and detentions.

For the past several years, especially since the 27th G8 summit in 2001 in Genoa, the G8 summits of the leaders of seven of the world’s richest industrialised countries and of Russia have been regularly met by popular protests by critics who assert that members of G8 are responsible for global issues such as global warming due to carbon dioxide emission, poverty in Africa and developing countries due to debt crisis and unfair trade policy, exacerbating the AIDS crisis by medicine patent policy and other problems that are related to globalization. These protests have been met by massive numbers of arrests and police violence, on some occasions.

In contrast to previous G8 meetings, this time arrests have been taking place a week before the official meeting itself has started. At least 23-25 human rights activists and political activists, including two German citizens, have been detained by police in Moscow, St Petersburg and other cities in Russia since 7 July. Many of them have been sentenced to ten days’ imprisonment, enough to prevent them from participation in political protests until the end of the official summit.

Some sources claim that the true detention rate may be much higher, such as an unconfirmed report attributed to the Siberian Confederation of Labour (????????? ???????????? ?????) claiming 200 arrests. The activists’ legal team claims that more than 100 arrests and detainments have occurred.

Discussions on global energy issues and other themes have started at the Libertarian Forum despite the arrests, and the Russian Social Forum is expected to start on schedule on 13 July, followed by the official G8 meeting on 15-17 July. Permission to carry out a street demonstration by the Russian Social Forum has been refused by the authorities.

Russian authorities say that demonstrations are permitted, but only in the location set aside for them – a sports stadium about 25 km (16 miles) from the Constantine Palace, which will house the summit. The Russian Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Chekalin said that allegations of harassment were “from the realms of supposition”.

“The police’s actions are commensurate with the situation at hand. The situation demands particular measures, sometimes intensified. Sometimes it demands that we visit a family in their apartment,” He said.

Significant Environmental Waste Management Kp Is

Back in 2003, the DEA has been asked by the government to assess the environmental information in the statutory annual report and accounts of the FTSE All-Share companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. The objective was to establish a base before the new law companies became law in 2006 and therefore a method was determined for future evaluations.Since the initial assessment in 2004 percentage of the FTSE All-Share companies report their environmental information has increased from 89% to 99% in the Summary Statement of the environment 2009-2010.Companies must be based on quantifiable environmental KPIs (key performance indicators), which was determined by DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) 2006 Reporting Guidelines for UK Business. The most important environmental KPI is a collection of reviews of where the business 89% of companies surveyed, followed by pollution (79%), climate change (62%), environmental management systems (61%), the use energy and biodiversity, land use, and tied 57% each.Between 2006 and 2009-2010, the number of companies reporting their environmental impact greatly increased. Growth was highest in the discussion of biodiversity / land use and climate change, after which the energy and waste management.”89% of the 458 companies analyzed is responsible for waste management in the period 2009-2010, an increase of 76% in 2004. Increased the Most in the health sector, utilities and oil and gas companies. Waste has been the subject most discussed since 2004. Prices of discussion were the highest value (100%) and lower oil and gas companies (75%). While 85% of the materials, the companies have discussed the waste in 2009, declined by 95% in 2006. “Such an increase is partly due to the introduction of the WEEE Directive in 2007. Directive Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment affect manufacturers, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment, including appliances. The aim is to prevent WEEE, promote reuse, recycling and recovery of WEEE and to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment, especially those dealing with WEEE.Despite a high percentage of the FTSE All-Share companies to disclose information about their waste and only 6% do so in accordance with government guidelines. In comparison, 34% of FTSE 350 companies disclosed information as directed by the reports. How a society deals with relationships and waste can degrade its performance. Most businesses can reduce waste and increase reuse and recycling to improve the efficiency of resources, monitoring their treatment and disposal. These data can be used to reduce the effects, improve processes, reduce costs and support regulatory compliance.

Al Sharpton speaks out on race, rights and what bothers him about his critics

Monday, December 3, 2007

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”
